Kenya will find it hard to get its troops out of Somalia. This can only happen if the war-torn country achieves peace, Permanent Secretary of Foreign Affairs Macharia Kamau said. Mr Macharia said yesterday during a four-day workshop in Nairobi that the contribution of the Kenyan Defense Forces (KDF) in the Horn of Africa was unavoidable.”It is easy to build peace in Somalia. But it’s difficult to get out. It’s because of our peacekeeping capabilities, ” Macharia said. Since 2011, KDF has been in Somalia. Critics called for the soldiers from the troubled country to be withdrawn. However, President Uhuru Kenyatta stood firm against the pressure to recall the troops. He said that it would only happen when peace was achieved in Somalia. During his keynote address, Macharia repeatedly expressed his confidence that the contribution of Kenya to building peace in Somalia would bear fruit.
